Habitat International

Founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller, Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. Since its founding in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller, Habitat for Humanity International has built and rehabilitated more than 225,000 houses with families in need, becoming a true world leader in addressing the issues of poverty housing.

Through volunteer labor, management expertise, and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families.  Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit, with zero interest mortgages. Monthly mortgage payments, including taxes and insurance, are repaid forming a "Fund for Humanity," which supports the construction of more houses.

Construction is a cooperative effort between volunteers and home recipients.   Each Habitat affiliate in the United States and around the world is governed by a local board of directors which oversees a non-discriminatory family selection process and makes sure that the houses built are safe, simple, and affordable.
